KIKI THE YOGI: ADVENTURES OF AN ASPIRING YOGI

How Yoga Saved My Life

A quote that really changed my life is a quote by Ram Dass, “Your problem is, you are too busy holding on to your unworthiness.” In 2019, I hit, what we would call “rock bottom.” However, this rock bottom ultimately became my moment to come clean with my family, my friends, and ultimately myself. I know now that this rock bottom could possibly be the best thing that has ever happened to me. I had always been interested in yoga and attended classes here and there but after all the hardships and difficult situations I had endured I wanted answers or a playbook on how I got here and how I could turn my life around. I had just turned 30 and thought my best years were over and I had thrown them all away and had nothing to show for myself. I had dissapointed my parents, my family, God and myself mostly. But I ended up buying a book by Owen Thomas Ashton called “Twelve secrets of Radically Healthy People.” These twelve steps are the following: 1) No Excuses 2) Be Happy 3) Turn Suffering Into Motivation 4) Become Self-Motivated 5) Unplug from the Conventional Health System 6) Seek Knowledge 7) Eliminate Addiction 8) Know Your Purpose  9) Attack Challenges 10) Live by a Higher Standard 11) Exercise 12) INTENTION CONTROLS TRANSFORMATION. This book is not necessarily about yoga but for me, I felt like these were guidelines for me to climb out of the hole I had created. KiKi the Yogi: Adventures of an Aspiring Yogi serves as a vessel to project my passions, and clue in my loyal readers as to what inspires me in this crazy world. So, sit back, relax, and read my story. 🙏 Namaste ~ the light in me honors and recognizes the light within you.

Quotes to Awake the Inner Yogi

This section is dedicated to quotes that have truly motivated me on my quest towards this life and these goals I am working towards. I think they should be shared with everyone :)
Namaste 🙏 Namaste literally means, “I bow to you.” ... The spiritual meaning of namaste conveys that “the divine in me respectfully recognizes the divine in you.” Namaste invokes the feeling of spiritual oneness of heart and mind, with the person one is greeting.

So I have been doing very well and progressing pretty quickly in my yoga journey. I had developed a great daily yoga practice and meditation schedule and pricing different yoga certifications and dates for classes until a few weeks ago... I was practicing handstands and got distracted and fell the wrong way into a table which caused me to break two of my toes and fractured my foot. It was right before I had plans to go to the Yoga Expo. My grandmother is also going through chemo for colon cancer which has been extremely rough on her and difficult for the entire family. To add to that, her poor little cat Peanut got very sick very quickly and she had to put him down which was so hard on her and it was tearing me apart seeing both of them suffer. I am very close with my grandmother she raised me half of my childhood and I also took care of Peanut a lot while she was away.

While this has been a trying time and a bit of a set back. But It has given me the opportunity to develop as a yogi in other ways.

My mentor (Jen the owner of Zeal Yoga in Jupiter, FL) saw me struggling through everything going on in my life and got me a book, The Yamas & Niyamas: Exploring Yoga’s Ethical Practice, by Deborah Adele. This book has literally been transforming my life. I highly suggest it to anyone interested in living a more fulfilling life.
